Why work for the HSM?

Thank you so much for wanting to volunteer at the Humane Society of Morocco!

Volunteering is a great way to give back to the community and our animals and the best way you can help animals in need is to volunteer at the Humane Society of Morocco! There are a number of ways and departments to use your time, skills, and talents. Whether you wish to help care for the animals, work in guest services or administration, provide assistance with programs, make special events special, or lend your handy-person skills on projects, your participation is key to helping homeless and abused pets.

As a volunteer, you become part of a team committed to providing loving, quality care to pets in need, while also making the community a better place for our pets and their people. Together, we can make a big difference for the animals!

Please complete the volunteer application to let us know your area of interest and time availability. We’ll get in touch with you to let you know more about orientation and the training process. (Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older.)

Moroccan animals are our fellow citizens. We have a duty of care to ensure that they are safe, healthy & happy.

You will be contributing to help create a shift towards a safer, healthier, happier future for the animals of Morocco. We are a family here. But we work hard. Really hard.

The work could be noisy, dirty & physical. But the reward will always outweigh the sacrifice. We are here for them. You are making a difference.

Meet the team

Our team is very eclectic: it ranges from Operations team to Marketing, Administrative, foster home visitors, social media managers, photographs, Public Relations… who keep the wheels turning in the background.

We are nothing without the some of our parts.

We live for animals.

We believe that we can make a difference.

We are the Humane Society of Morocco!

What volunteering means?

The Humane Society of Morocco is run entirely by volunteers. Our volunteers come from all over the globe & are from all walks of life. Without our volunteers, our charity does not run.

Our volunteer schedule is never the same. Some weeks we are overflowing with volunteers. Other weeks we really struggle. Whichever the scenario, we need to ensure that we are adequately covered to be able to meet the needs of the animals that need it.

Daily tasks at the HSM include:

Basic animal care: feeding or bathing animals.
Cleaning: Poop scoop, general sanitation of the animals’ place.
Walking/Hiking: The dogs are walked for a minimum of 90 mins at a time on a rotating roster.
Animal Training: Training walks, to aid socialization or to assist rehabilitation.
Staff Training: New volunteer onboarding.
Medical Treatment: Administering specialized treatments to animals when required.
Projects: Other initiatives, such as building, administration, etc…

Volunteering with the Humane Society of Morocco is unlike any other volunteer experience. Is it hard work? Absolutely! Is it at times overwhelming? You bet.

We are a small, hardworking team & while we encourage a fun & exciting experience, volunteers are expected to give 100% at all times. The success & future of HSM lies in the commitment, enthusiasm & dedication of our volunteers.

We are trying to create & sustain significant change towards the health & treatment of animals in Morocco & are looking for volunteers who wholeheartedly believe & support the change we are working hard to create.

Volunteer testimonials

Ali is not only an awesome person, and leader of this organization, but he is also the best friend of all animals he finds. He is so knowledgeable, dynamic, has so much empathy and care for the animals, and is such an inspiration.

I have recently returned from Morocco. My whole experience was amazing from working closely with animals and other volunteers where I couldn’t have been made to feel more welcome. Thank you Ali for this amazing experience I couldn’t get anywhere else. We will see each other again.
I plan a return trip next year. I would recommend it to anyone… cannot fault anything at all, my whole experience was brilliant.
